Drew Brees Announces He’s Returning to the Saints in 2020

It wasn’t long ago that Drew Brees stated that if he was to return to the game in 2020 that he would only do it for the Saints.

Tuesday he made the news official, he is coming back for a 20th season, and he’s going to do it again for New Orleans.

The veteran future Hall of Fame QB broke the news on Instagram Tuesday of his return.

The team will have to figure out what they are going to pay Brees, as his current contract voids before the 2020 league year begins.

The quarterback is scheduled to account for $15.9 million of the Saints’ cap as a result of past restructures and prorated pay to fit Brees’ salary.

There’s no doubt that he is going to account for a lot of the Saints cap, but that’s to be expected as he and the team figure out what’s best for both sides.

The Saints also now will need to figure out who is going to be Brees’ backup at the QB spot. It likely spells the end for Teddy Bridgewater, and Taysom Hill is a restricted free agent, but has already said he wants to be a franchise quarterback somewhere.

Could this be the last ride for Brees and the Saints? That remains to be seen, but for now fans should be happy that he’s coming back to make another run in 2020.
