Saints Break the Bank for WR Michael Thomas; Five-Year Extension Worth $100 Million

The Saints have signed wide receiver Michael Thomas to a five-year, $100 million extension through 2024 according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal contains $61 million guaranteed and makes Thomas the league’s highest-paid wideout at $20 million per year in new money. He is actually the highest-paid non-quarterback offensive player in NFL history right now, a number that will surely soon be surpassed by whoever is next in line-Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, or a player to be named later.

It would be hard to argue that Thomas does not deserve that kind of money. Through three seasons, the 26-year-old has averaged 107 catches for 1,262 yards and eight touchdowns as the former No. 47 overall pick of the 2016 draft. Needless to say, Thomas is ending his holdout and will likely be on the practice field tomorrow morning at the latest.
