New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham will be an unrestricted free agent in 2014, with no signs of the franchise tag being placed on the All-Pro as of yet. Since coming into the league in 2010, Graham has recorded 301 receptions, for 3,863 yards and 41 touchdowns. Graham is wanting a pay day now but has expressed that he would not be happy if the organization tagged him for the 2014 season.
According to the tight end, he says it is not for him to decide whether he is paid like a tight end or as a wide receiver. The Saints have used Graham a number of times in a wide receiver role on the offense and has been the most productive tight end in the league since 2011.
“I’m going to play whatever I’m asked to do,” said Graham. “It’s that simple.”
The NFL will allow teams to start tagging players on Monday. Graham feels that it would be unfortunate if the Saints were to slap him with the tag, however, the Saints could tag the Pro Bowler and work on a contract at the conclusion of the action if they are unable to reach a deal by the beginning of Free Agency. The free agency period starts on March 11.
