Recap and Forget Time: Saints vs Seahawks

Okay, setting aside the fact that the game last night was an unmitigated disaster and that I personally haven’t seen a Saints team beat that badly in years (I had to say that to get it out of my system) What’s next for the Saints? There is no let down in the schedule with Carolina – St. Louis – Carolina – Tampa Bay on tap to finish out the season.

On a positive note, the Saints don’t have to depend on anyone else to get the #2 seed in the NFC, if they take care of business then that will happen. Carolina has been arguably one of the two hottest teams in the league this season. After getting off to a bad start they are now tied with the Saints for the NFC South.

They’ve done it with a very good defense and ball control. They lost 3 of their first 4 games and now are in the process of an 8 game winning streak, beating San Francisco and New England along the way. And yes the San Francisco game was played on the road. They did lose to Seattle at home in the first game of the season, it was a defensive struggle that the Seahawks won 12 -7.

The job for Sean Payton and the Saints is to have a complete and total memory loss of the game against Seattle. I know a lot of fans are having trouble doing that but the Saints don’t have a choice. To go out with the beat down against Seattle stuck in their minds will not help them at all. A victory against the Panthers puts the pressure back on Carolina to keep up.

The thing to remember is that this is still the 9-3 Saints who are undefeated at home. They still have one of the top offenses and defenses in football. When, not if, they come out and take it to the Panthers on offense and the defense gets a chance to play in the Dome with all the support that will be there, then they’ll be back on the right track.
