Saints vs Jets: Saints Gumbo

Saints are at the Jets tomorrow, big game for the Saints and with Coach Payton’s mantra of one game at a time should be in full force for this game. Call it a possible gotcha game if you want but the Jets are capable of winning on Sunday.

Random Thoughts on the Game:

The Jets are 3-1 and so far this year their recipe for winning has been to run the ball effectively and to stay close. Their 3 wins at home have been by 7 points or less. The Saints defense will need a big game from their front 7 in order to keep the Jets running game from getting going.

If the defense can contain the Jets running game, rookie QB Smith has been sacked 28 times and pressured constantly. He can hurt you when he pulls the ball down and runs, but if the Saints can contain him in the pocket and apply pressure he has thrown 13 interceptions so far.

Another way to get the Jets out of their run mode will be if Brees and company can get off to a fast start, which they are capable of. Putting early points on the board should force the Jets to abandon the run game early. The Saints have also led in time of possession in every game played so far.

Keeping Brees clean is something else the Saints need to focus on. The head coach of the Saints is a Ryan and it seems to be in their blood to find a way for their defense to get to the QB. This would be a good game for the Saints to find their running attack.

At the end of the day, I think the Saints will come away with another win. Winning on the road in the NFL is never easy and this game will be no exception. Saints 30 Jets 17.
