Saints Bye Week Review: Offense

Over the bye week we’re breaking down the team and looking at how each unit has done statistically. Overall the Saints are 5-1, 1st place in the NFC South and as of right now they own the tie breaker over Seattle for the top seed in the NFC.

After looking at the stats the two areas that the Saints have to improve on is the rushing game and red zone efficiency.
Things look different for the Offense than they did this time last year.

Things look different for the Offense than they did this time last year.

Total yards: tie-5th (397.7 per game)
With the way the offense started the season out this is pretty impressive.
Passing yards: 3rd (311.0 per game)
Brees makes it easy to get used to being rated in the top 3.
Rushing yards: 23rd (86.7 per game)
I wasn’t surprised at the ranking but I was surprised at 86.7 yards per game.
Third-down conversions: 7th (42.2 percent)
42.2 percent is impressive on 3rd down conversions. One of the reasons the Saints are leading the league in TOP.
Red zone touchdowns: 26th (45.5 percent)
One of the two areas that the Saints need to work on.
Turnovers (fewest giveaways): tie-6th (7)
This has been huge all year long. One of the big differences between last year.
Sacks allowed: tie-12th fewest (14)
This has actually gotten better as the year has went on. The first couple of games were pretty brutal on protecting Brees.
Points scored: 7th (26.8 per game)
Another area that has improved as the season has gone on.
Time of possession: tie-1st (33:33 per game)
When you keep Brees and company on the field for roughly 6 1/2 minutes longer during the game than the opponents, you are going to win a lot of football games.
QB Drew Brees: 1,958 yards (2nd), 14 touchdowns (tie-2nd), 102.6 passer rating (4th), 72.6 Total QBR (6th)
TE Jimmy Graham: 593 yards (1st), 37 receptions (tie-7th), 6 receiving TDs (tie-3rd), 6 total TDs (tie-5th)
Garrett Hartley: 59 points (tie-2nd), 14 field goal (tie-2nd)
RB Pierre Thomas: 188 yds. 3.2 average.
RB Khiry Robinson: 137 yds. 5.1 average.
RB Darren Sproles: 118 yds. 3.9 average.
Jimmy Graham:  37 receptions, 593 yards, 16.0 average.
Darren Sproles:  32 receptions, 366 yards, 11.4 average.
Marcus Colston: 24 receptions, 324 yards, 13.5 average.
