Saints vs Patriots: Recap

A great game between two of the better teams in the NFL ended as a lot of games do, for one team the feeling of ecstasy and for the other, a heart wrenching, knot in the pit of your stomach defeat.

Looking back at it as objectively as possible, I believe that if the game had been played in New Orleans it would have resulted in a Saints victory and it might not have been as close as this one. I’ve always been hesitant to put a lot of blame on the officials but in this game, looking at it from the viewpoint of being a Saints fan there were a lot of questionable calls.
The bye week should give Payton and Ryan time to regroup, review and repair.

The bye week should give Payton and Ryan time to regroup, review and repair.

But when I step back, even with what I would call questionable calls the Saints still had a chance to win, so what happened? Basically the offense gave the Patriots three chances at the two minute drill. You don’t give Brady three chances like that, it would be like giving Brees or Manning three chances at the end of the game.

The upcoming bye week might have come at a perfect time. Besides giving injured Saints a chance to heal their physical bodies the two week break will give the coaches and players time to get this game out of their mind. All season the theme has been to concentrate on one game at a time and to not look ahead. That goes the same for not looking back at what just happened.

The other plus for having the bye week come up at this time is that it will give Ryan and the defense a chance to look at how they played against Brady and the hurry up offense that the Patriots ran that gave them trouble. The NFL is a copycat league and the upcoming opponents saw how the Patriots attacked the Saints defense so you can be sure that other teams will try the same thing.

I’m just glad those other teams don’t have Brady.

Most Relevant Post Game Quote:
“Lord knows we had our chances at the end there,” Brees said. “I know that you can’t give Tom Brady and that offense three chances at a two-minute drill.”

My Pollyanna side coming out:
Maybe we’ll see the Patriots again…….in New York!!!
