I’ve never been one to toot my own horn, I would rather that someone else point it out when I’ve done something exceptional to help out a friend, co-worker……..or my favorite team, but I have to let people know about this. In this case I can’t take credit alone, it is something that my wife Donna and I have accomplished together.
I’m pretty sure, because there is no evidence otherwise, that we are responsible for the Saints starting off 5-0. I can’t say I’m 100% sure because there may have been others that have contributed to the success of the Saints starting off the season who could also lay claim to being instrumental in this as well.
To be clear I’m not asking for any special kudos, I just want the Saints to continue winning. Even if Coach Payton offered to fly us down to New Orleans to personally thank us for our efforts (hint, hint) as long as the Saints are in this streak, and what we’re doing is working, I would have to respectfully take a rain check.
The first week of the season, against the Atlanta Falcons, my wife and I were watching the game (Donna in her white Saints shirt and myself in my WhoDat Army shirt) together. At first we were in the living room and at one point we went to watch it upstairs in our bedroom. The Saints were not doing well until I had decided to go back downstairs and watch in the living room. With Donna watching upstairs in her white Saints shirt and me watching downstairs in my WhoDat Army shirt, the Saints prevailed.
To some this might seem like a coincidence, but we have experienced something similar back in 2009 when the Saints won their first 13 games. So to establish the fact that this was working, the next week when the Saints were playing Tampa Bay we started the game off wearing the same shirts (un-washed from the week before) with Donna upstairs and myself downstairs. At the start of the 4th quarter with the Saints up 13-7 I went upstairs to talk with Donna about the game. What happens? Tampa Bay scores a touchdown and takes the lead. Donna and I looked at each other and I ran back downstairs. With me being back downstairs and Donna upstairs the Saints were able to drive down and get a game winning field goal.
Needless to say after the Tampa Bay experience, Donna and I have both stuck to what we know works in order to produce wins against Miami and Chicago. And if one of us slips the other is there to remind the other one what needs to be done. When we look at the standings and see the 5-0 record we realize that it is a small price to pay for the joy of seeing the wins adding up week after week.
On a side note, the shirts are starting to stand up by themselves, again, small price to pay. I wonder what they’ll be like if the Saints reel off another 8 or 9 wins in a row?
If you are doing something similar or know of someone who has done something that they think has helped their team win, leave a comment below. I’ll look at it with an open mind and tell you where you’re wrong.

PS. Apparently we broke the twitter last weekend. We passed the maximum number of tweets allowed during the game, let’s do it again next Sunday when the Saints play the Patriots….
