Two weeks ago I commented that the three upcoming games for the Saints would tell us a lot about them this season. Since then the Saints have played two of the games. The Saints took on the Dolphins at the Dome and completely dominated them, earlier today the Saints played the Bears in Chicago and came out on top 26-18 in a game that didn’t seem like the final score should have been that close.
On offense the Saints got back to a more balanced mix of pass and run. Passing the ball 35 times and attempting to run the ball 28 times. Brees threw the ball to 6 different receivers with Graham again leading the way with 10 catches and Thomas scored via the air twice. The Saints held on to the ball for 36 minutes and more importantly had no turnovers.
On Defense, especially in the first half the Saints were able to pressure Cutler, time and time again. Vaccaro, Jenkins and Hawthorne all recorded sacks in the 1st half and Lofton led the team with 8 tackles.
It was one of those games that you had to stay with until the end because the score was close enough to where you just couldn’t relax.
With the win the Saints record is 5-0, there are now only 3 unbeaten teams left. The Saints along with Denver and Kansas City. Carolina played today and lost, they are now 3 1/2 games behind the Saints in the NFC South. Atlanta plays tomorrow night and depending on whether they win and lose will be either 3 or 4 games back.
Another side note to this weeks games is that besides New England losing, Brady did not throw a TD pass ending his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass at 52 games, two shy of Brees record of 54 consecutive games.
Next week the Saint play on the road again at New England in their last game before their bye week.
One last thing to note, we were tweeting as the game was being played today and there were some issues that came up mid way through the 4th quarter and we weren’t able to tweet for the duration of the game. There was nothing that we could do about it but I do apologize for the lapse in updates.
