Saints VS Bears : Game Breakdown

For me this should be the game of the week, the Saints are one of 5 unbeaten teams that are playing on the road in week 5. I don’t think any of the other unbeaten team are facing an opponent of this caliber.

For the Saints, this is another measuring stick in their season, playing a quality opponent on the road. For the Bears this games means keeping pace with the Lions and possible regaining the lead in the NFC north.

Let’s look at the keys to this game.

When Chicago has the ball:

Like most teams for Chicago the key to their offense is keeping Cutler upright. Last week the Lions were able to bring the pressure and get sacks. The Saints defensive line is capable and hungry. The go to guys for Cutler are running back Matt Forte and wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Both Forte and Marshall are quality players at their respective positions and each commands attention. The key for the Saints defense will be stopping the running game and getting pressure on Cutler.

When New Orleans has the ball:

Payton is a master at playing matchups, that said you have to know that Chicago will be keying on Graham. Last week with the Dolphins keying on Graham, Brees was able to get the ball to Sproles early and often. When the Dolphins adjusted and concentrated on Sproles the Saints went to Graham and Colston. The other thing to watch for is the Saints running game, Payton is still committed to getting it going.

Special Teams:

In Devin Hester the Bears have one of the premier return men in football. In Morstead the Saints have one of the NFL’s better punters. He will have to be on his game to keep the ball away from Hester.

Total Offense Passing Offense Rushing Offense Total Defense Passing Defense Rushing Defense
Saints 4th 2nd 25th 6th 5th 22nd
Bears 13th 19th 16th 21st 23rd 15th

Should be a close game, and it could go either way. I’m sticking with the Saints 31 – 28
