Along with the Saints and the Cards tomorrow, the other games to watch for this weekend are the Bucs at the Patriots, Atlanta at Miami and the Giants at the Panthers. Like last week this is a big chance for the Saints to open up some more ground in the NFC South.
The Bucs with all of their personnel problems should lose in New England. The problems the Patriots are having on offense is the only thing that might keep this game close (never thought I would say those words). Miami is playing at home and have a real chance to go 3-0 on the season against a banged up Atlanta team and in a must win game for both the Panthers and the Giants it’s easier to see NY walking out of that game with a win.
As for the Saints and the Cards, below are my thoughts.
When the Cards have the ball:
On paper they have a balanced team, but with Fitzgerald nursing a sore hamstring they will either have to have someone else step up or rely on the ground game. The Saints still have a lot of people either out or hurting on the defensive side of the ball, so Ryan will have his hands full once again coming up with a game plan for stopping the running game. The keys for the defense are shutting down Mendenhall and get a good pressure against Palmer.
When the Saints have the ball:
Make no mistake, the Cards have a good defense with opportunistic players. The question for this game is do the Saints get back to an even run/pass mixture? A lot of that will probably depend on who’s running and having success. The Cardinals have been good against the run so far this season but their biggest concern has been their ability to rush the passer. If the Saints get the running game going and Brees has time to get into a rhythm passing it is going to be a long game for the Cards.
