The New Orleans Saints face the Houston Texans tomorrow afternoon for their third preseason game. The Saints were are looking to remain undefeated after having beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders in their earlier preseason outings. Whether they win or not ultimately doesn’t mean anything in this game. It is really important though how the first team offense and defense play against that of the Texans.
Two things I’ll be looking at, among many:
1. How will Cameron Jordan and the rest of the defense play? Jordan has played really well so far in the first two games, and it will be imprtant to see how well he keeps up. He is poised to have a breakout season in his third year which would be welcoming to a defense that ranked dead last in rushing yards allowed (and overall defense) in 2012. Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan has already shown that he can have this defense play at a high level so far in the preseason and here is hoping we see a lot of intensity against last season’s 7th ranked offense.
2. The running game. So far, the Saints have not been running the ball too well in the preseason. Against a strong Texans defense, they will need to show that they have what it takes to run the ball. The Texans currently are allowing 66 rushing yards per game in the preseason, so they will prove to be a tough test.
