Former Chiefs and Browns Coach Romeo Crennel and former Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan are the New Orleans Saints’ top choices to hire as the team’s defensive coordinator to run the new 3-4 scheme, Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports citing Gil Brandt of NFL.com.
The Times-Picayune reported the Saints reached out to Crennel shortly after Coach Sean Payton fired Steve Spagnuolo after Payton had only been back on the job for a couple of days.
The Cowboys fired Ryan after the regular season. He appeared to have been hired for the Rams’ defensive coordinator job. Then the Rams announced last week that Ryan wasn’t taking the job.
Crennel and Ryan have historically run 3-4 defensive schemes.
