The Times-Picayune reports that two of the Saints coaches on the staff, OC Pete Carmichael and OL coach Aaron Kromer have expired contracts.
The contracts of two of the most valued members of the New Orleans Saints’ coaching staff have expired, making offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael and offensive line coach/running game coordinator Aaron Kromer coaching free agents, according to a Twitter report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Carmichael, 41, is interviewing Thursday for the head coaching vacancy with the Chicago Bears, according to a league source.
Carmichael, who joined the Saints in 2006 and has been the offensive coordinator since 2009, gained attention last season when he took over the play-calling duties from Sean Payton after the Saints’ coach injured his leg during a game and was forced to the coaches box. With Payton suspended for the year, Carmichael called all the plays this season as quarterback Drew Brees threw for a league-high 43 touchdowns and more than 5,000 yards for the third time.
Meanwhile, Kromer, who just completed his fifth season with the Saints, interviewed for the head coaching job at Boston College in November but didn’t get the job.
