Aaron Kromer to Take Over for Vitt for First Six Games as Interim Coach

The Saints on Wednesday ended speculation over who will take over for interim coach Joe Vitt once he leaves the team for his six-game suspension related to the bounty scandal, as the team announced offensive line coach Aaron Kromer will become the interim to the interim coach, Lsrry Holder of New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Kromer will serve as the head coach on the Saints’ final two preseason gamedays, General Manager Mickey Loomis said. Kromer will officially take over for Vitt starting Sept. 3 leading up to the Saints’ Week 1 matchup against the Washington Redskins.

Loomis said he wanted to use the final two preseason games as a trial run for Kromer and the staff to familiarize themselves with game mechanics.

Vitt, who is filling in as the interim coach with Coach Sean Payton suspended for the entire season, will continue to run team meetings and staff meetings during the week. Vitt should reassume the role as interim coach the week leading up to the team’s Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos.
