Saints Reach Deal With Their Savior

After an off-season that has been an emotional roller coaster for many individuals involved in the Saints organization, a shiny beacon of hope has now arose breathing new life into the New Orleans community.  Wearing a black shirt with the phrase “#NOLALOVE” (standing for New Orleans love) across the chest, Brees was undeniably pleased that his long contract battle with the Saints is over as he can now focus all of his efforts on OTA’s and getting ready for the 2012 season.  New Orleans can finally move forward now as they locked down the NFL regular season passing yards record holder and the franchises only Super Bowl MVP in their history to a 5 year, 100 million dollar contract.

Ever since coming to New Orleans in 2006, Brees has had quite possibly the most substantial effect on a city than any other professional athlete of this generation.  After the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans, Brees and the Saints became the face of an entire communities struggle and helped to begin the long road towards rebuilding a city that had been almost completely submerged in water.  Ever since then the future hall of fame quarterback has won several awards and earned accolades for his professionalism on and off the field.  These include being selected as an All-Pro 4 times, back to back NFC MVP Awards, 3 time NFC Offensive Player of the Year, twice the AP NFL Offensive player of the year as well as his most prized possession being his Super Bowl XLIV title along with his Super Bowl MVP Award.  Furthermore, Brees took his game to the next level last season as he became the quickest player in NFL history to throw for over 40,000 career yards which was due in large part to his breaking Dan Marino’s single season passing yards mark by throwing for 5,476 yards.

It was an essential no-brainer for the Saints to explore every possible scenario for re-signing Brees who could have explored other options but in the end chose to stay loyal demonstrating why he is so unanimously adored league wide.  Among all of his accomplishments what still burns brightly in the minds of Who-Dat nation is the teams remarkable run en-route to winning the franchises first Super Bowl.  Brees has exceeded all expectations that were surrounding him upon his leaving the Chargers to go to New Orleans.  He had suffered an injury in his last game as a Charger and some theorized he would never be able to play football again but he has done that and so much more for the NFL collectively by showing that great people exist in this, an era filled with scandals and controversies.
