Saints Release or Waive 11; Place Three Others on IR

The Saints got a head start on roster cuts, placing three players on injured reserve and releasing or waiving 11 others.

Running back Patrick Cobbs, wide receiver Joe Morgan and safety Paul Oliver. 2011 seventh-round defensive end Greg Romeus was placed on the “Reserve/Non-Football Injury” list, and second-year running back Chris Ivory, the team’s leading rusher in 2010, was placed on the “Reserve/PUP” list.

Ivory and Romeus are not eligible to return until Week 7.

Offensive tackles Jordan Black and George Foster, safeties Quincy Butler, Pierson Prioleau and Chris Reis, cornerback Trumaine McBride, and tight end Tory Humphrey had their veteran contracts terminated. Wide receiver Montez Billings, defensive tackle Dexter Larimore, tight end Tyler Lorenzen and linebacker Dwight Roberson were waived.

Saints running back Chris Taylor was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

The Saints have 62 players on their roster and will need to make nine more cuts on Saturday. That figure does not include defensive end Will Smith, who has been suspended for the first two games of the regular season.
