The Saints upgraded their D-line with the 24th overall pick on Thursday night, taking Cal DE Cameron Jordan to help out getting to the QB and stopping the run.
Here’s what NFL Draft Countdown said about Cameron Jordan:
All of the focus seems to be on offensive prospects for the Skins, but don’t be surprised if they wind up addressing their defense with this selection. They say it all begins in the trenches and if that’s true the Redskins are in trouble defensively. In fact, their line is littered with over-the-hill veterans and journeymen types. Cal’s Cameron Jordan has always been a much more highly-regarded pro prospect than his lack of national press would lead you to believe, but a standout performance at the Senior Bowl really opened some eyes. The son of former Pro Bowl tight end and 13-year NFL veteran Steve Jordan, Cameron is big, strong, athletic, schematically versatile and a force both as a pass rusher and against the run.
Matt’s Take: Solid pick as Jordan fell to the Saints lap. Another big guy that can take up space, and after seeing Marshawn Lynch run over the Saints in the playoffs a year ago, this can be a pick that may take some time, but expect this big guy to evolve into a solid player within two years.
