Colston Quietly Approaching 1K On the Season

You don’t hear a lot about him on ESPN or the NFL Network.  Nor will you likely see him featured as one of Deion Sanders’  weekly “Primetime” highlights.  But I can guarantee you that if you ask any member of Who Dat Nation, they can tell you exactly who Marques Colston is and just how valuable he is to the Saints.

After getting off to a slow start scoring wise, Colston has consistently put up impressive receiving numbers all season long.  Right now he’s averaging 12.1 yards per catch on 76 receptions for 921 yards, just 79 yards shy of 1,000 on the season!  That’s no small feat considering the fact that New Orleans is a team that’s loaded with talented receivers.  Let’s face it, Drew Brees has a luxury like no other quarterback in the league when it comes to targets.  So Colston’s accomplishments speak volumes for his efforts on the field.  Quietly, he’s getting it done.

However, there was a nice article called Colston’s Excellence Deserves Attention  written by ESPN blogger, Pat Yasinskas in which he referred to Colston as “the most underrated wide receiver in the NFL.”  In his article, Mr. Yasinskas adamantly advocates for Colston to receive his first ProBowl appearance.  He also speaks to the humbleness of Colston and Saints receivers as a whole.  I thought it was a very appropriate piece done on a quality receiver who answers the call week after week.  It’s high time someone other than us Saints fans takes notice of Colston and all he means and has meant to the team.  Incidentally, Colston now has 7 touchdowns on the year and counting.
