With Jeremy Shockey getting banged up Sunday, despite him avoiding broken ribs, the Saints are still looking at who may be out there in the TE market.
The team has kicked the tires on three free agents, according to a league source, bringing in Leroy Banks, DajLeon Farr and Dustin Mitchell for a look.
If Shockey has to miss any playing time, the club still has Jimmy Graham to step up and play the TE spot.
what about david thomas?? hes been a reliable and useful tight end for the saints…whats wrong with him? dont tell me hes injured aswell? but i dont find any injury reports, in which case i expect that david thomas and jimmy graham at TE will be fine. and they wont get anyone else.
John, you are so right. I haven’t seen any reports that Dave is injured, so I assume he’s fine. Then there’s Tory Humphrey, but I think he is hurt. Still, the TE position was one that had plenty of depth at the beginning of the season. I really don’t know what gives here, but I’m sure we’ll find out more in the coming days. Thanks for your comment.
It is still better to have someone in the “wings”, just in case of an injury from either of those TE’s. With our luck this season not being too good in the injury department….we might need someone there for someone in the replacement department. Don’t you think so??
Thanks for your comment, Dorris. While I agree that it would be good to have someone in the wings in case we need them, adding other players is just not a luxury the Saints can afford right now. Whenever a team adds someone at this late stage, someone else who has been a part of the team for 9 whole weeks now has to be let go which thins out other positions and/or specialties. It gets difficult to decide who goes and who stays, particularly when the team has gelled and melded together for this long. Maybe one day we’ll see an extended roster size which would allow a bit more flexibility. Wouldn’t that be great? Once again, thanks for commenting. Keep ’em coming.
most definately dorris you are correct. when i saw this headline though, it just made me panic as to the injury status of david thomas, because he is such a good player, one of the most underrated tight ends in the game today imo
