Saints sign RB Jones, release Carney

Out with the old, back in with the new

The New Orleans Saints signed former Cowboys and Seahawks running back Julius Jones, along with former Colts safety Matt Girodano.

To make space for the freshly acquired tandem, the Saints released kicker John Carney and running back DeShawn Wynn.

The former Notre Dame standout will help a running back spot that has been decimated by injuries and Giordano, a Super Bowl winner with Indy, will help give the club a boost in the special teams department.

2nd chance for Hartley: The 46-year-old Carney booted for the Saints the last two games and connected on five of six attempts for 3, however, he botched an easy gimme from 29 yards out which altered the momentum during Sunday’s stunning loss in Arizona.  New Orleans is forgiving, as they are prepared to allow Garrett Hartley an opportunity to redeem himself.  Hartley will receive a chance at redemption, this coming after missing a potential game-winning 29-yarder in OT against Atlanta in Week 3.
