DE McCray “Speechless” After His Release

It came as a shock earlier today when the Saints released DE Bobby McCray, and now the vet is speaking out – well sort of, about his release:

Defensive end Bobby McCray will no longer be competing for a starting role on the New Orleans’ defensive line this season, as the New Orleans Saints released the six-year veteran Monday. From his home in Los Angeles, McCray (who turns 29 on August 8th) told NewOrleans.Com via cell phone that “if anybody asks, I am shocked and speechless. Other than that I would prefer not to comment.” Some will have you believe McCray’s release after two seasons in New Orleans has more to do with a $1.2 million roster bonus due him in 10 days and a $2 million base salary next season than his playing ability but this move wasn’t all about money. It’s more about the caliber of the depth at his position and the financial commitment that the team has made to other players in Gregg Williams’ pressure-filled defensive scheme.
