Saints To Auction Super Bowl Ring To Raise Funds For Gulf Oil Spill Relief

Drew Brees on Fox News’ Happening Now

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are in Plaquamines Parish today visiting ground zero of the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. In addition to visiting with residents and workers in the region, Drew Brees announced today on FOX News Channel that the Saints are raffling off a Super Bowl 44 ring. All proceeds for the raffle will benefit Gulf relief efforts.

Tickets are just $2 each and the winner will be announced prior to the Saints-Vikings season opener September 9th.

“Obviously we wanted to do something to lend a helping hand down here, and …we felt that the best way to do that, or maybe the most unique way to do that, would be to give someone the opportunity to win one of our authentic super bowl rings through a raffle,” Brees told Fox News. “This is the real deal, and this is only obviously a one-time thing, and just one of those very special circumstances where we wanted to do something that could really raise significant funds for the efforts down here.”

The effort hopes to raise well over a million dollars in relief. However, Brees thinks the money raised could well reach the millions.

“We’re here to really lend support…to reach out to the Coast Guard and all the responders down here who work on the oil cleanup every day, as well as the residents down here that have been affected by the oil spill,” Brees continued. “Certainly, we want to be on the frontlines here, in regards to the oil cleanup and restoring our colorful wetland.”

Tickets can be purchased soon at

New Orlands and LA have the best football team in the US. Not only are they champions on the football field, they are champions of their community. LA has had NOTHING but hard times bad luck but they always have the spirt of the people and the spirt of the Saints. Everyone should look up to their example. Perhaps if other teams and fans did follow the Saints example there would be no need for a court inside of stadiums? Go Saints. Awsome
