Local Kid Get Chance To Attend Reggie Bush Football Camp

Every child has dreams. Some involve acting on stage or flying planes or catching footballs.

Sometimes those dreams need a little nudge in the right direction.

When Melanie Craig heard about The Reggie Bush Football Camp coming up in June, she saw it as a perfect opportunity for her students to get involved in interests beyond the classroom. As an intern working with her school’s counselors at George W. Carver Elementary, Melanie saw how much her students adored the local football team and loved the game they played. She contacted ProCamps, the company organizing the camp, and was awarded a scholarship for one of her students to attend the camp free.

To win the scholarship, all her students had to do was write a short essay on why they thought they should attend the camp. Melanie received many enthusiastic responses, which made it even more difficult to select one winner. But, one essay stood out above the rest.

Arthur McGinnis is a seventh grader with big dreams and big talent. Recently, he was admitted to the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) for his talent on stage. The 6 foot-4 inch seventh grader hopes one day to attend college and play football..at Harvard.

“I had a feeling I was going to win. I never doubt myself,” he said after finding out he had won the scholarship.

In his essay, Arthur emphasized that attending Reggie’s Camp would be a huge step towards learning the game and playing football at Harvard one day, but also in helping give back to his family

“ I want to do it for my family. I want to put them I a better place than we’re in right now,” said the precocious fourteen year old.

And with a push in the right direction anything is possible, even Ivy League dreams.

Thanks Reggie.
