Saints Add FB Jason McKie

Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago is reporting the Saints are adding another former Chicago Bear to their lineup this week.

A deal is in the works to bring FB Jason McKie to the Crescent City, according to a source close to the negotiations. The former Bear was released March 16th and is a free agent.

McKie spent the last seven years with the Bears, starting 46 games in his time in the Windy City. He helped turn the Bears’ running attack into one of the best the past few seasons, paving the way for 1,000 yard rushers Anthony Thomas and Matt Forte. His good hands allow him to be a threat in the passing game, where he’s made 68 catches for 364 yards and 3 TDs as a Bear.

The move allows him to reunite with friend and former Bear teammate Alex Brown, who recently signed a two year deal with the Saints. Brown expressed his pleasure in being reunited with McKie via Twitter.

The move makes sense for the Saints. McKie adds depth to the position and serves as a veteran insurance policy in case Heath Evans is not ready come training camp.
