As the Vicodin Scandal Turns…

Wow..What a difference a day makes. I’ve been at work all day and finally getting wind of today’s developments on the Vicodin Scandal..

Here’s the latest developments in case you missed them..

The lawsuit against the Saints was removed from court, meaning the case won’t go to trial. Sounds like good news for the Saints, right?

Well, the case is instead going to arbitration, meaning the Saints’ lawyers and Geoffrey Santini’s lawyers will sit down with a third party of lawyers and talk things out. Usually, arbitration favors business claims over an individuals claims because lawyers tend to look at solely the business side of things. No jury also means there is no human emotion or sentiment that usually goes into making a decision. Would anyone involved really get a fair trial in Louisiana after the Saints won the Super Bowl? So again, another victory for the Saints, right?

Why was the lawsuit removed from court and instead both sides now going to arbitration? Because Santini signed paperwork back in 2001 stating that if he had any claims against the Saints, the matter would go directly to arbitration. No lawsuit, no trial by jury..arbitration.

Why was this not mentioned before? Why has this only surfaced now? That’s the question that remains unanswered in all this. According to some sources close to the investigation, lawyers for Santini met with the Saints’ legal team a full eight days before the lawsuit was filed. Why was no notice to arbitrate given then?

Had the case gotten straight to arbitration, we would not have heard the allegations of stealing by Joe Vitt or Sean Payton’s addiction. The nasty mud slinging would have stayed behind closed doors. As it is now, there is no formal civil suit, but that doesn’t mean the proper authorities can’t conduct their own investigations and press criminal charges.

The lawsuit was filed a full ten days ago. The case is not going to trial. A victory for the Saints? Perhaps.

But, the damage is already done.
