WR Robert Meachem Has Toe Surgery

Looks like Robert Meachem is out for a little while..at least until training camp starts.

Meachem, the Saints leader in TDs scored last season, underwent surgery to repair some torn cartilage in his second toe. e sustained the injury late last season, but played through the pain. When the injury would not heal in the offseason, surgery was required.

“It’s just a nick,’’ Meachem said Saturday at the team’s practice facility as he walked with the aid of crutches and a boot on his left foot.

“It’s good that we caught it now,’’ Coach Sean Payton said of the injury. “It began bothering him again and became aggravated the more he started running on it. So we just felt let’s go ahead and get it fixed now. It’s going to set him back. Our goal is to get him back in time for the start of training camp (July 29), the first week or so.’’

Meachem led the team with 10 TDs last season, including the memorable strip after a Kareem Moore interception against the Washington Redskins.
