2010 NFL GridIron Gab Mock Draft: # 6 Seattle

The draft continues to heat up. As we continue, the big surprise ids the fact that Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy is still on the board. Many draftniks had him rated as the top player on their draft board. But alas, I think he’s found a home…

With the 6th pick in the draft, the Seattle Seahawks draft

DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma

I know, I know..What business do the Seahawks have drafting McCoy?
Well, they are thin along the Defensive line with the recent retirement of DE Patrick Kearney. And when the best defensive line prospect falls in your lap, why not take him?

Devon Heinen of SeahawksGab begs to differ on the consensus selection of McCoy. When asked about the pressing concerns on the defensive line, he replied

It’s an issue, but not necessarily critical at the moment because seattle has a great under-the-radar guy in Nick Reed that could see some time. They could use curry as a rover/the “elephant” rusher that coach Pete Carroll wants to implement (sometimes a down lineman, other times standing up)…which is something Curry was great at in college. plus, Seattle can draft a DE later in the draft. Seattle has too many other holes that need addressing first.

Seattle has to improve their line offensively because, with Walter Jones most likely retiring and a makeshift line at the moment, Matt Hasselbeck won’t have the time necessary to go through his progressions and make plays through the air. as for the running game, no matter who you have in the backfield there won’t be any day light for positive yardage without an immediate upgrade now and for the future at an offensive line position.

The draft thus far…

6. Seattle Seahawks- DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma
5. Kansas City Chiefs- S Eric Berry, Tennessee
4. Washington Redskins- OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska
2. Detroit Lions- OT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State
1. St. Louis Rams – QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma

On the clock…the Cleveland Browns.
