Mocking the Draft

Here’s a quick look at what various bloggers and media across the country are saying the Saints should take with the #32 pick in this year’s draft. Some are very reasonable others are downright strange. What do you think?

Mel Kiper, ESPN

DE Jerry Hughes, TCU

Hughes doesn’t have great size, but he has the skills to be either a 3-4 OLB — and thus could have his name called by New England, Arizona or a couple of others — or he could be a fantastic pass-rusher in the mold of a Dwight Freeney. This is a guy that flat out knew how to get to QBs at the college level, regardless of what was in his path.

Todd McShay, ESPN

OLB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri

This is a perfect fit. The Saints lost Scott Fujita to free agency and Weatherspoon brings the same kind of leadership while providing an overall talent upgrade. Weatherspoon is a very good value at this point.

James Varney, New Orleans Times-Picayune

OLB Daryl Washington, TCU

Bucky Brooks,

DE Everson Griffen, USC

The signing of Alex Brown won’t deter the Saints from adding another pass rusher to their lineup. Griffen gives the team a young athletic edge player to groom behind their aging trio of defensive ends.

Wes Bunting, National Football Post

OLB Daryl Washington, TCU

Washington offers the kind of speed and instincts needed to excel on the speedy Superdome turf.

Charles Davis,

QB Tim Tebow, Florida

I predicted Senior Bowl week that someone will fall in love with him and find a way to draft him in the first round, and it’s time for me to stand by that statement. And the roar of shock, awe, approval, disapproval will be long and sustained as the first round concludes with his name called. Sean Payton would love to “mad scientist” this prospect that has invited so many differing opinions. I say he’s an NFL QB, especially under the tutelage of the team that possesses the Lombardi Trophy.
