And With the Second Pick of the 2010 NFL Draft…

SaintsGab continues to moderate this year’s NFL GridironGab Mock Draft. The St. Louis Rams selected QB Sam Bradford of Oklahoma with the first pick.

Now, it’s the Detroit Lions turn to pick..their selection…

OT Russell Okung of Oklahoma State

From Anthony Kuehn of LionsGab:

Young quarterbacks that experience early success usually have an upper echelon left tackle protecting them. Young quarterbacks require better pass protection than veterans because they don’t have enough experience for their reads to be second nature yet and they take longer to make decisions. Starting defensive tackles can be found anywhere in the draft, elite left tackles rarely are found outside the top half of the first round.

Very intersting pick, considering the Lions also have needs at DT and the best two DT prospect in a long time are on the board. But yes, somebody needs to protect young QB Matt Stafford’s blind side and Okung is more than capable. Elite OTs are hard to find in the draft.

The 2010 NFL GridironGab Mock Draft thus far…

2. Detroit Lions – OT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State
1. St. Louis Rams – QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma

On the clock.. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
