Saints Practice Report

The Saints returned to the field Wednesday afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s Super Bowl. The spirited practice lasted more than two hours at the University of Miami.

The practice session began with a 30 minute walk through for every phase of the game before the team stretched together. From there, the Saints worked on some first- and second- down sets and plays on both offense and defense. Most of the game plan was installed already in practices last week in New Orleans.

“I think we’re ahead of schedule with just about everything we’re trying to get done,” Payton joked with the media. “Even the buses and everything are running on time or ahead of schedule.”

The Saints also ran turnover drills for about five minutes during the practice, something most teams only work on in training camp.

When asked about the drills, Payton responded, “Well, we do that a lot during the season, too. But I’d like us to have a little of that training-camp mentality here. We even brought in the cool pools for the guys just in case.”

Afterwards, Brees and his receivers worked on a few routes.

Every player participated in practice, except for RB Lynell Hamilton (ankle), who watched practice in a protective boot. Darren Sharper (knee), Jonthan Vilma (knee), Jeremy Shockey (knee), and CB Randall Gay (foot) all looked good participating in almost every drill.

The Saints hit the practice field on Thursday once again before finishing up practice on Friday at the University of Miami.
