Brees Wins FedEx Air Player of the Year Award

In what hopes to be one of many victories this week by Drew Brees, the Saints QB was selected by fans as the FedEx Air Player of the Year. The fans selected Brees over rivals Peyton Manning and Brett Farve.

Brees, due to his busy schedule in preparation for Sunday’s game, could not be at the award presentation. Instead, his wife Brittany accepted the award on his behalf. And she more than held her own.

“He feels like he has a lot riding on this, obviously. That’s an understatement,” said Brittany, when asked about her husband playing in the Super Bowl. “But he has the entire city that he wants to make proud, and he wants them to know how much that means to him.”

When asked about how her husband is handling the most important week of his career, Brittany responded, “When he’s backed into a corner, that’s when Drew stands up and does his best work. I mean, any time anyone says, ‘You’re too small, you’re not fast enough, you’re not gonna win’…he loves being the underdog. He’s getting way too much credit. Trust me. I won’t let him read the paper or watch television, so he has no idea. I shouldn’t even tell him he won this award.”

She even joked with FedEx Ground winner Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans, who predicted a Colts victory Sunday.

“I’m not sure if Chris heard the question right, ” Brittany replied. “Probably the flashes confused him a little bit.”

Along with the award, a donation of $25,000 will be made to the New Orleans Safe-Kids Coalition on behalf of Drew Brees.
