Week 16 Roster Moves

The Saints have made a few moves the last couple of days.

The biggest splash this week has been the departure of veteran PK John Carney. This move seemed inevitable with the emergence of Garrett Hartley this season and the Saints not wanting to keep two kickers on their roster for the post season. Carney, a longtime fan favorite at age 45, kicked with the team from 2000 to 2006 and again this year, nailing 13 of 17 field goals and 50 of 52 extra points. Despite his accuracy, he has lost his range the last few years. We will miss you John!

In other moves, the Saints placed FB Marcus Mailei on injured reserve. He hurt his hamstring on a special teams play Saturday against Dallas. The Saints also cut CB Marcus McCauley.

In their place, the Saints sigend fornmer Bengal S Herana-Daze Jones, TE Tory Humphery and welcomed back FB Kyle Eckel. Jones, who has played mostly on special teams, played for the Bengals, Broncos and played this preseason with the Patriots before being released. Humphery, a veteran TE who spent the last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers, caught 11 passes for 162 yards last season. Eckel, the former Navy FB, played five weeks with the Saints in place of Heath Evans, before being cut Dec. 10th.
