Week 15 Bloggers Blitz, Part 1

We sat down with blogger Niko and asked him a few questrions about this weeks opponent- the Tampa Bay Bucanneers. While the Bucs have had a rough first year under new coach Raheem Morris, Niko shares his optimism about the future of the franchise.

SG: Josh Freeman showed a lot of poise in the pocket last week and led the Bucs to a 24-7 victory over Seattle. What can we expect from him the rest of the season? Is he the future franchise quarterback of the Bucs?

BE: Josh Freeman is going to be the only quarterback to start for the Bucs given injury for the next few years at least. Especially if Raheem Morris is the HC. He IS the franchise quarterback.

With two games left, if Raheem has learned his lessons the last few weeks, he will continue the the ball, utilize Freemans best features.

SG: Where have you seen the greatest improvement in this season?

BE: The switch to the one gap tampa two defense now run by Raheem Morris. It solidifies that the whole Jim Bates experiment was a mistake.

SG: Raheem Morris is one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL. What can we expect from him in the future and can he bring the Bucs back to playing the high level of football they have the last few years?

BE: The Bucs have not played a high level of football the last few years. They achieve a 9-7 record in 08 with smoke and mirrors. But yes, In my opinion, Raheem has the best chance of energizing the franchise. The players play all out despite a 1-11 record and beat Seattle on the west coast for only the 4th win in history on that side of the country. If he  survives the offseason, Raheem Morris should be able to resurrect the franchise with the quality and depth of defensive talent the Bucs have at their fingertips.

SG: What young players for the Bucs have impressed you the most?

BE: Sammy Stroughter was a 7th round draft pick and was a pretty good 3rd WR, plus his return capabilities were awesome, returning a TD this year.

Geno Hayes is a real fit for the Tampa Two, replacing Derrick Brooks not only from Florida State, but  with his same number in Tallahassee.
Roy Miller shows potential on the D line.
Josh Freeman of course.
Connor Barth misses a few FG in short  disantce, always by only a few feet. When you doink a ball, you cant get much closer on a miss.
Denmar Dotson may get a shot at right Tackle in the offseason to replace an often criticized Jeremy Trueblood.

SG: What must the Bucs do this week to beat the Saints?

BE: Its too late for Hurricane season to blow the roof off again.

Somehow run the ball for 190 total yards, and pick off Drew Brees 6 times. Freeman must go 19/24 215 yards 3 TDs. I think its more realistic to beat the Falcons last game of the year.
