Suisham Kicks It, and It’s… NO GOOD!

Shaun Suisham was set up to kick a 23 yard field-goal to pretty much end the Saints hopes of winning. Before the field-goal, the score was 23-30 and the Saints players and fans were shaking their heads as the Redskins drove it down the field yet again. It was heart-wrenching as the sad reality of a perfect season was about to be shattered.

The Saints stopped them on 3rd and goal to set up 4th and goal. As Suisham came out he was feeling pretty good as he was 3/3 on the day. All the Saints fans and players could do was pray that God would bless the Black & Gold. The ball was snapped, Suisham kicked it, and he shanked it right! SUISHAM MISSED THE EASY KICK!

Drew Brees rushed on the field and immediately started a great drive. It was capped off when Drew threw a 53 yard pass to Robert Meachem with blown coverage to tie the game 30-30. It was truly a miracle. There was a problem though. The Saints offense scored extremely quick leaving 1:19 left on the clock. Jason Campbell had been tearing up the Saints D all day.

It quickly ended, though, when Jonathan Vilma intercepted a pass to not only end the Redskins chance of getting a possible field goal, but to possibly give Drew Brees an opportunity to get one more field goal to win the game. Hartley attempted a 58 yard kick and he missed as the game headed to OT. The Redskins won the toss. More fear entered the hearts of everyone as thoughts of Campbell’s consistency creeped into the minds of people.

The Redskins got two first downs and things began to look dim. Campbell dropped back and dumped one off to Mike Sellers on second down, Chris McAlister delivered a huge hit, and the ball is on the ground! Wait refs are ruling the play dead, no the play is under booth review. After what seemed like hours, the play was overturned… Saints football!

The Saints got the ball and didn’t cease to amaze. First down after first down, through the air and on the ground, the Saints were all of a sudden on the one foot mark. Second and goal and out comes Garrett Hartley. From 18 yards, he kicks it and it is… GOOD! THE SAINTS HAVE WON!

What was left out here was the brilliance of Payton to call a time out. That is the only reason there was a review.

Great article, that game was a very strenuous 3 hours. Keep up the good work.
