Posted in NFL.com has a story about the Saints going undefeated, and safety Darren Sharper says 16-0 is NOT a good thing for the team:
It’s a trendy topic of conversation to debate whether the Saints have a chance at the perfect 16-0 record this season. It might be trendy, but it’s not what the Saints are focused on, according to veteran Darren Sharper. Sharper told the NFL Network Wednesday that the 11-0 Saints have learned something from the 2007 Patriots, who went undefeated before the loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII. “It’s important, because it means you win every game, and that’s always your goal going in to every week, is to win,” Sharper said about 16-0.
“But we can’t use that model that the Patriots showed us, that you win 16, you win the next game, and you go into the Super Bowl game, and if you don’t win that, the season is pretty much null and void. You don’t accomplish everything you set out to do, and it leaves a sour taste in your mouth. I think that’s kind of shown us we’re not going to just totally concentrate on going 16-0. Our goal is to win a championship. If we focus more on that, than just getting to 16-0 and then feeling as though we have a sense of accomplishment, we’ll be fine and we’ll keep that hunger until we claim our ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl.”
