Taking A Closer Look at the Saints 2009 Schedule

Based on last year’s records, the Saints have the eighth toughest schedule. However, the first four games set up nicely for the Saints. The Saints open the season against the Lions, fresh off their record-setting winless 2008 campaign. This is followed up against road games against the Eagles and Bills. The Eagles secondary will have two new starters in the secondary this year while the Bills will without running back Marshawn Lynch due to a suspension. The Saints finish the first quarter of the season at home against the New York Jets, featuring a new coach and quarterback.

The second quarter of the schedule features four playoff teams from last year including divisional games against the Panthers and Falcons. The Saints will also have to contend with the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants. Three of the four games are at home.

The third quarter of the schedule features road games against Saint Louis, Tampa Bay, and Washington. The lone home game of this stretch features a Monday night matchup against the New England Patriots.
In what has become the rule rather the exception, the Saint fourth quarter will be no walk in the park.

Three of the last four games will be division games: away at the Falcons, home against the Bucs, and away against the Panthers. The Saints will also face the Dallas Cowboys at home on a Saturday night. On the bright side, none of the late season game figure to place the Saints in bone-chilling temperatures.
