The New Orleans Saints accomplished two things Tuesday: they got a kicker to compete with Olindo Mare and they added 2 new coaches to their staff; the Associated Press is reporting that the Saints have signed Martin Gramatica to a contract, of which terms were not released. Gramatica joined the team for the final 3 games of the 2007 season and made all 5 field goal attempts; he will compete with incumbent Mare, who struggled for much of the 2007 season before suffering a season-ending hip injury in December.
The Saints have also hired running backs coach Aaron Kromer and assistant defensive line coach Travis Jones; Kromer has been an offensive line assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders for the past 7 years while Jones was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU from 2003-04 before working the last 3 years as a Miami Dolphins’ defensive assistant.
