The New Orleans Saints have promoted two assistant coaches on Monday; Greg McMahon was promoted from assistant special teams coach to special teams coordinator and Dennis Allen was elevated from assistant defensive line coach to secondary coach.  McMahon replaces John Bonamego, who took the same position with the Miami Dolphins, and Allen replaces Tom Hayes.

McMahon has been the assistant special teams coach for 2 season with the Saints after coming from the college ranks; McMahon coached special teams for 13 years  at Illinois before spending the 2005 season at East Carolina.  Allen was a secondary coach at Tulsa in 2000-01, and he assisted with the secondary for 2 seasons during a 4-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons, which preceded his time woth New Orleans.

Looks like the Saints are not going to allow current QB coach Pete Carmichael to talk to the Dolphins about their open offensive coordinator job.  ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the Dolphins have asked to speak with Carmichael, but it looks like the Saints are not going to let it happen.  The rumor says that Saints coach Sean Payton is fine with Carmichael leaving if he wants, but GM Mickey Loomis wants the coordinator to stay and is not allowing him to leave.  QB Drew Brees, who has worked with Pete since 02, is also a fan of the QB coordinator, and wants him to stay.

Former Saints nose tackle Tony Elliott has died at the age of 48.  He was found in his bed by a health care aide Monday.  Elliott was paralyzed in a shooting back in 2000, after he had retired from the game.  He played with the Saints from 1982 to 1988, and in those six years had 13 sacks.  He was drafted by the Saints in the fifth round out of North Texas back in 1982.
